Collaborative Research Center 619 „Ritual Dynamics“
Socio-Cultural Processes from a Historical
and Culturally Comparative Perspective

Founded in 2002 and funded by the German Research Foundation DFG, Heidelberg University’s collaborative research center 619 (abbrev. SFB 619) so-far is the first and only German collaborative research center for ritual studies.

With over 90 contributing researchers from 15 scientific fields, the SFB 619 “Ritual Dynamics” is an exceptionally large interdisciplinary research association. The association’s goals include the empirical research on the dynamics of ritual practices in different historical and contemporary cultures as well as the further development of basic theoretical approaches in the science of rituals.

On May 18 2009 the Collaborative Research Center 619 “Ritual Dynamics”, participating institution of the Cluster “Asia and Europe”, has been granted funding for a new project period by the German Research Foundation. The third project period will continue from 2009 until 2013.
